ABS
is a terpolymer of Acrylonitrile, Butadiene, and Styrene. ABS is a
hard, rigid, and tough plastic. Due to the Butadiene content, many
different grades or levels of ABS are available. Some of these
grades include heat resistant, flame-retardant and platable grades.
- ABS offers a good balance of
tensile strength, impact and abrasion resistance, surface
hardness, heat resistance, low temp. properties, chemical
resistance and dimensional stablity.
- ABS can be pigmented to almost any
color.
- Injection molding, extrusion, blow
molding, foam molding, and thermoforming grades are available.
- ABS exposure to sunlight creates
color change, impacts strength, hardness, and reduces surface
gloss.
- Some common ABS industrial and
consumer products include football helmets, camper tops,
communications equipment, business machines, automotive
instrument panels, pipe and fittings, home security devices,
plumbing hardware, automobile grills, mirror housings,
refrigerator lining, luggage shells, tote trays, mower shrouds,
boat hulls, and large components for recreational vehicles.
